African Honeymoon Safari - South Africa - Highlands House, Zimbali Lodge, Hluhluwe River Lodge

Days 1 to 4 - The Highlands House, Cape Town, South Africa

On arrival from your international flight to Cape Town, South Africa, you will be met and taken by private road transfer to Highlands House where you stay for four nights (bed & breakfast).

South Africa is a beautiful destination for a relaxing and picturesque vacation which is easily combined with a safari or beach break.

On the afternoon of your arrival a hire vehicle will be delivered to the hotel for your use throughout your stay in the Cape.

Sir Herbert Baker built Highlands House at the turn of the 20th century for Cape Town's first Judge President- Judge Searle. It is a beautifully restored national monument, considered to be amongst the most important homes of the era, and is situated only fifteen minutes drive from Cape Town.

This colonial mansion is set in beautifully appointed gardens and each of the individually and elegantly decorated suites, which are all en-suite, offer guests an atmosphere of comfortable serenity.

Facilities include a large swimming pool, outdoor jacuzzi with superb mountain views, a billiard room overlooking the garden, luxurious lounge and wine cellar. Highlands is also conveniently located near to some of the most popular golf courses; Royal Cape, Mowbray, Westlake and Clovelly. It is also well placed for visiting the beautiful Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, the wine estates of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, Table Mountain and Cape Town itself. Cape Town offers so much for a couple on their honeymoon, from a relaxing drink by the water to breathtaking walks to table mountain which looks it best at sunset.

In 1662, Jan van Riebeeck sailed into Table Bay on the north Cape Peninsular and laid the foundations of South Africa's oldest settlement, Cape Town. Three hundred years of history have been preserved in much of Cape Town's architecture, mingling with the more functional demands of the 20th century.

The Houses of Parliament, National Gallery, Museum and Planetarium are all within ambling distance of elegant shopping malls and colourful markets, which entice shoppers to browse and buy everything from souvenirs to gems and antiques. In a recent development, the restoration of the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront dockland area evokes images of 19th century seafaring activities and provides a superb setting for an array of cafes, restaurants and bars. From here, you can take boat trips round the harbour and out across Table Bay.

Rising up over the city, flanked by Devil's Peak and Lion's Head, is Table Mountain. Majestically dominating the Peninsula's northern skyline, Table Mountain is without doubt South Africa's best-known landmark and the views from its peak are truly spectacular.

The western Cape is scenically outstanding; the Peninsular itself and the Cape Winelands are well worth exploring and beach lovers have a choice of more than 100 beautiful sandy beaches and bays to visit. Some of the finest wines in the world are produced locally and there are many excellent restaurants, cafes and nightclubs offering cuisine and entertainment to suit all tastes.

Add to all this a warm Mediterranean climate and you have just some of the ingredients that make Cape Town one of the most beautiful and exciting cities in the world!

An hour east of Cape Town is the Cape Winelands, a beautiful area of hills and fertile valleys. Viticulture began here in the 18th century as Huguenot settlers brought their knowledge from northern Europe. Paarl, Stellenbosch and Franschhoek each has a charming character with carefully preserved buildings, and estate houses with a mix of European and Cape Dutch architecture can be found tucked away throughout the area. One can spend two or three days exploring the Winelands, enjoying wine tasting independently or with a guide. Between visits there are numerous fine restaurants, golf courses and other pursuits.

Days 5 to 7 - Zimbali Lodge, Durban, South Africa

In the morning make your way to the airport and drop off your hire car for a scheduled flight to Durban. On arrival pick up your hire car and drive to Zimbali Lodge where you stay for three nights (bed & breakfast).

Zimbali, Zulu for "valley of flowers" is in the heart of an area of naturally occurring lakes and wetlands. As a protected environment it is home to a wide variety of wildlife - from magnificent butterflies such as the Citrus Swallowtail to many beautiful species of antelope and bird life. The ocean provides another life system for exploration by nature-lovers and the lush forests surrounding Zimbali are a birdwatcher's paradise, with sightings of the rare Narina Trogon a distinct possibility.

All rooms offer five-star luxury and elegance, designed to harmonise in tone and style with the natural surrounding forest. The African/Classical architecture is epitomised by warm wood tones, which flow through to both floor and wall decor. Bathrooms are luxurious with free standing Victorian baths from the turn of the century. Each room is well stocked with a selection of hot beverages, light snacks and a mini bar, and room service is available 24 hours a day. Every room has a balcony and faces the lagoon and the sea. A perfect spot to relax with an evening drink in the privacy of your own balcony on your Honeymoon.
