A safari in Botswana will provide you with some fantastic memories. Botswana has some of the most luxurious lodges for the perfect African safari.
Jao Camp is an eighteen bedded luxury tented camp located in the huge Jao Private Reserve which lies to the west of the Moremi Wildlife Reserve in the Okavango Delta.
The accommodation is among the most luxurious in the Okavango Delta and each of the nine immense canvas suites is beautifully designed with a wooden structure below the sweeping canvas roof and walls. Inside each suite there are large beds (twin or double as preferred), occasional tables, lamps, dressing table and luxury en suite bathroom with 'his & hers' hand basins, flush w.c. and both indoor and outdoor shower. The entire structure is set on a large raised wooden deck with spacious veranda and hammock outside where you can enjoy views of the verdant Okavango vegetation laced with the shallow waterways for which this region is famous.
Because the Jao Reserve is private, you can enjoy a wide range of safari activities in the company of the camp's expert guides. These include mokoros (dugout canoes) which are punted silently along reed lined channels, boats, open vehicles which head off in search of the bigger herds by day and after dark, as well as walking safaris where your guide will be armed. Each of these means of game viewing provides a new and exciting perspective from which to enjoy the wildlife, birds and scenery.
The abundant grassland and water of the Jao Private Reserve supports a wide variety of wildlife including elephant, giraffe, antelope (including water-adapted species such as red lechwe), zebra, hippopotamus and crocodile. It is also a place where you are likely to encounter big cats and lion, leopard and cheetah are all regularly seen on the reserve. A fantastic way to view the game is on a day or night safari game drive often at dawn or dusk or on foot.
After your morning activity you will be transferred forty minutes by light aircraft to Lebala Camp where you stay for three nights (fully inclusive of meals and activities).
Lebala Camp is situated on a peninsula of land jutting into the heart of the Linyanti Delta that surrounds the camp. This delta comprises big seasonal floodplains, hundreds of square miles of savannah, as well as varied forest which includes mopane trees, huge old baobabs and acacia; all of which attracts a very large number and wide range of animals.
Lebala Camp is located on the largest private game viewing concession in Botswana - the 2320km_ Kwando Concession. It shares this enormous area of land in northern Botswana with its sister camp, Lagoon Camp, and because the concession is private you can enjoy the widest possible range of game viewing activities which include walking with an armed guide and tracker, game drives by open vehicle both during the day and at night with a spotlight to view nocturnal creatures. There is also a hide close to the camp where you can enjoy exciting 'close up' game viewing and bird watching.
This huge reserve attracts very large numbers of animals including large herds of elephant including lone bulls and big breeding herds, herds of buffalo, graceful looking giraffe and a wide variety of antelope, zebra, wildebeest and other plains game. More rare antelope such as roan, sable, sitatunga and lechwe are regularly seen. This reserve is also a very good place for spotting predators and wild dogs regularly den in the area, and if you add the cheetah, leopard and lion which all inhabit the reserve you have an exciting predator population.
The bird watching in this area is also very good indeed with approximately 400 species including big eagles, brilliantly coloured kingfishers, storks, herons and an enormous variety of other birds. Your guides would know every one.
The accommodation here is very comfortable with just eight huge tents set on a raised wooden deck with en-suite bathroom (flush w.c. and shower), proper beds, safari furniture and a private veranda facing onto the open plains. The standard of cuisine here is very good indeed and all drinks and laundry are included.
After your morning activity you will be transferred forty minutes by light aircraft to Duba Plains Camp where you stay for three nights (fully inclusive of meals and activities).
Duba Plains is perhaps the Okavango Delta's most remote camp. The camp is located in the furthermost reaches of the Delta and is situated on an island, which is surrounded by large flood plains and shaded by large ebony, fig and garcinia trees. The private reserve is 35,000 hectares in extent.
The game viewing at Duba is always very exciting with big herds of buffalo, which are the main prey of the numerous lion, while sleek leopard are continually on the prowl searching for the smaller antelope such as impala. This year Duba has developed as possibly the best lion spotting camp in southern Africa. It is also an excellent camp for elephant with some impressive breeding herds and many large lone bulls. You can see hippopotamus, giraffe, zebra and a host of smaller creatures such as warthog and jackal, while on night drives nocturnal creatures like porcupine and aardvark can be seen. At any time of year there are over 350 species of amazing birds in the Duba area.
Duba is small and intimate, with accommodation for only twelve people. The huge tents each have en suite bathrooms, with hot and cold running water, proper beds, furniture and a veranda overlooking the floodplain. The dining room and bar area are on raised decking, situated under large riverine trees.
The camp offers a variety of activities, ranging from game drives in open 4x4 vehicles, walking safaris or mokoro canoeing. Guests may take night drives, which often provide opportunities to see Africa's elusive nocturnal animals in action. The vehicles in Duba are allowed "off-road" for the ultimate in game viewing.
