South African Family Safari vacation at Constantia Uitsig and Tanda Tula

Days 1 to 4

Depart at 1905 from London's Heathrow Airport on the British Airways flight BA055 to Johannesburg, South Africa. On arrival take the scheduled flight to Cape Town where you will be met and transferred by road to the luxurious Constantia Uitsig where you stay for four nights (bed and breakfast).

South Africa is a beautiful destination for a relaxing and picturesque vacation which is easily combined with a safari.

Constantia Uitsig is set in the beautiful Constantia Valley just twenty minutes drive from the centre of Cape Town. It is surrounded by the vineyards of a working wine farm with wonderful views across the valley to orchards and distant mountains. It is an ideal out of town location and you can wake to the sound of birds singing, and can enjoy a stroll through the Constantia Uitsig extensive grounds and gardens before breakfast.

The hotel has sixteen elegantly furnished and alternatively decorated en-suite rooms set in the gardens around the historic manor house, a perfect location to start your unforgettable safari in South Africa.

Another great attraction of Constantia Uitsig is the standard of cuisine and you have three restaurants to choose from, the more formal Constantia Uitsig set in the original ancient Manor House which, regularly finds itself in the "top ten" Cape restaurants and specialises in Provencal cuisine with a superb wine list. La Colombe and the River Cafe also serve delicious meals and unforgettable breakfasts which set you up for an enjoyable day visiting Cape Town, or touring the vineyards of the Cape Winelands.

Constantia Uitsig is famous for its delightful cricket ground set among ancient oak trees and during the warmer days you can enjoy the sparkling swimming pool.

In 1662, Jan van Riebeeck sailed into Table Bay on the north Cape Peninsula and laid the foundations of South Africa's oldest settlement, Cape Town. Three hundred and fifty years of history have been preserved in much of Cape Town's architecture, which combines attractively with the more functional demands of the 21st century.

The Houses of Parliament, National Gallery, Museum and Planetarium are all within ambling distance of elegant shopping malls and colourful markets, which entice shoppers to browse and buy everything from souvenirs to African art, gems and antiques to remind them of there stay and safari in South Africa. In the last ten years, the restoration of the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront dockland area evokes images of 19th century seafaring activities and provides a superb setting for an array of cafes, restaurants and bars. From here, you can take boat trips round the harbour and out across Table Bay.

Dominating the city's skyline and flanked by Devils Peak is the looming mass of Table Mountain, Cape Town, and visitors should not miss the opportunity to ascend Table Mountain by cable car. The view of the City and the south Atlantic from the summit is quite magnificent.

There is a wide range of excursions and activities in and around Cape Town including visits to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was held prisoner, visits to Townships where you can enjoy lunch and exposure to Africa's vibrant urban culture. To the south lies the scenic Peninsula with its attractive sandy bays and pretty little towns. There are remote penguin colonies which can be visited by boat and canoe, and from July to November you can set off further afield in search of southern right whales. The more adventurous can even go looking for sharks in special "caged diving" facilities.

An hour's drive to the east of Cape Town lie the Cape Winelands where you find beautiful undulating scenery covered in ancient vineyards and fruit orchards. There are literally dozens of ancient wineries, many of which are open for tastings and lunch and which have magnificent estate houses. For the golfer there are several beautifully maintained championship golf courses, and the attractive little towns of Paarl, Stellenbosch and Franschhoek are each worth a visit.

Days 5 to 7

After breakfast you will be transferred by road to Cape Town Airport to board a scheduled flight to Hoedspruit, South Africa. On arrival you will be met and transferred by road for the start of your African Safari at Tanda Tula where you stay for three nights (fully inclusive of meals and activities).

Tanda Tula is located on the 2.2 million hectare Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, adjacent to the Kruger National Park in the Eastern Transvaal in Eastern South Africa. This is one of the finest regions for safari game viewing with large herds of elephant, graceful giraffe, many types of antelope, buffalo herds, lion, leopard and cheetah, and much more.

There are sixteen luxury private tented rooms with comfortable beds, furniture and en suite facilities, and each private tent has a patio overlooking the riverbed.

Guest areas include an open-air lounge, dining room and bar under thatch, which overlooks a water hole where animals can be seen coming down to drink and interact at any time of the day or night. There is also a swimming pool, small curio shop and game viewing hides.

You will wake to the chorus of birds before a guided safari game drive in search of the "Big Five", accompanied by professional game rangers. You will be able to enjoy bush breakfasts or brunch, superb safari game viewing and evening safari game drives. Lavish dinners are served in the boma, listening to the sounds of the African night.

Activities also include walking, normally just after first light when your guide will track animals through the bush, pausing occasionally to observe activity at a waterhole or to carefully approach wildlife. Cape Town and Eastern South Africa combine Luxury accommodation with a once of a lifetime safari experience.

Day 8

After your morning activity you will be transferred by road to Nelspruit, South Africa to board a scheduled flight departing at 1125 to Johannesburg, South Africa. On arrival you take the British Airways Flight to London's Heathrow Airport.
