The Okavango Delta is one of the world's most beautiful places - an interlinking network of crystal clear waterways shimmer and sparkle in the sun, fringed by palm islands and open grassland that cover an area the size of England and Wales. This is one of the most peaceful places on earth and it is full of wildlife and exotic birds.
To reach Botswana you would fly overnight to Johannesburg and on arrival connect with a flight straight up to Maun from where you will take a thirty minute light aircraft to Vumbura Camp.
This camp, like most we use in Botswana, is positioned on a large private area of land with very impressive plains game, including around a dozen types of antelope, giraffe, good herds of elephant, buffalo and zebra. And where there are plentiful herds there are always an awful lot of predators, particularly lion. Here you can enjoy all the delights of the Okavango including exciting walking safaris and being poled around the Delta in a dugout mokoro canoe. To get further afield there are open jeeps.
The accommodation at Vumbura is stunning with vast canvas rooms with proper beds, furniture and en suite w.c. and shower, the whole thing constructed on raised wooden decks with panoramic views of the surrounding country.
After three days here take a forty minute light aircraft flight to Savuti Camp. This area is famous for its huge elephant and lion prides, and the camp overlooks a big open grassy plain where you can watch elephant, buffalo and antelope a hundred yards from where you are taking a shower. There is also a special hide where you can sit concealed almost within touching distance of elephant near a waterhole.
