Safari in Zambia

Zambia is now one of the best countries in Africa for an active safari. Whilst on safari in Zambia you might like to enjoy a walk through the bush with your armed safari guide, canoeing down the Zambezi or day and night game drives by open 4x4 vehicle.

Many of the safari camps and lodges in Zambia are very small and remote, some take just six guests giving you the opportunity for some wonderful safari experiences in privacy.

Why choose Zambia for your safari?

A safari in Zambia is a luxury, there are relatively few tourists visiting the country and you are likely to find yourselves the only people watching an African bush drama unfold in front of you. Zambia is ideal for an adventurous, yet comfortable safari where you can enjoy walking, open vehicle safaris, boating and canoeing. It is perfect for a 'last family vacation' with older teenagers. While safaris in Zambia give you a chance to be active, they are not strenuous and a morning walk might cover 5 or 6 miles. Zambia has some of Africa's best safari guides and some of its finest privately owned small safari camps and lodges.

A safari in the South Luangwa National Park, Zambia

The South Luangwa National Park in Zambia is perfect for a luxurious yet remote safari bush camp experience. You could find yourself spending a few days at a couple of very comfortable safari camps dotted along the Luangwa River. Setting off just after sunrise you can enjoy tracking animals and learning the fundamentals of bushcraft as you follow the course of the meandering Luangwa River returning to your safari camp for a hearty breakfast. In the afternoon you can move further afield by open vehicle following big herds of buffalo, zebra and antelope, while after dinner a night drive may show you a leopard on the prowl or aardvark and porcupine.

A safari in the Lower Zambezi National Park, Zambia

The Zambezi National Park borders the half mile Zambezi River where you can enjoy safari activities by canoe and explore the fertile Zambezi floodplains with their elephant, lion, wild dog and hippo. Game drives along the Zambezi are very eventful with herds of elephant lining the edge of the river. The Lower Zambezi National Park is a marvellous place for a remote but luxurious African safari that will provide you with a superb Zambian game viewing experience far away from the madding crowd.

A safari in Kafue National Park, Zambia

Further west is Kafue National Park with its great diversity of mammal species - eighteen different types of antelope and six types of cat in one National Park, while the nearby Busanga Plains are home to millions of smaller graceful antelope and tree climbing lions.

You can round off a safari in Zambia at Victoria Falls to admire the mile wide waterfall and perhaps try rafting or a sundowner cruise.

You can easily spend over two weeks on safari in Zambia, or combine it with a few days by Lake Malawi.

When is the best time to go on Safari in Zambia?

Zambia is strongly seasonal and should be visited between May and the end of October.
