An amazingly affordable self-drive journey through some of the highlights of South Africa. Enjoy the vibrant city of Cape Town, the beautiful Garden Route and a classic 1920’s tented Big 5 safari experience in the malaria free Eastern Cape.

Day 1
Arrival in Cape Town and after clearing customs and immigration you will be met by your airport assistant who will accompany you to collect your rental car, and answer any questions re your upcoming trip through Cape Town, Garden Route and safari. Once you have your vehicle drive the short distance into the city, and your hotel, located in Mouille Point, facing the Atlantic Ocean. The rest of the day is at leisure to settle in to your new surrounds.

Days 2/3/4
3 full days to explore the beautiful city of Cape Town at your leisure. We highly recommend a trip to the Cape of Good Hope, taking in Seal Island, Chapman’s Peak and the penguins of Boulder’s Beach en route. A day spent in the Cape Winelands is also a must, and don’t forget Table Mountain, Robben Island, the V&A Waterfront….there is so much to do, you will not be bored!

Day 5
Heading out of Cape Town travel along the scenic Route 62 via historic towns, fruit orchards, the largest wine route in South Africa, and the port wine capital of Africa to the “Klein Karoo”. Here is your destination for the night, the town of Oudtshoorn, famous for the Cango Caves and the many ostrich farms.

Day 6
After a leisurely breakfast it is time to continue southwards, over the Outeniqua Pass to link up with the Indian Ocean coastal road through the Garden Route. Your home for the next two nights is situated on Leisure Isle in the beautiful Knysna Lagoon. Spend the afternoon exploring this beautiful town, and don’t forget to try some of the famous Knysna Oysters!

Day 7
Full day to explore the heart of the Garden Route – perhaps a day in Nature’s Valley or walking the Robberg Peninsula in Plettenberg Bay, or visiting the enchanting Birds of Eden, you will be spoilt for choice.
Overnight on a bed and breakfast basis at Cunningham’s Island – standard room
Day 8
After breakfast continue your journey eastwards, passed the famous surfing centre of Jeffery’s Bay and the coastal city of Port Elizabeth, to the Amakhala Private Game Reserve.
Settle into your 1920’s style pioneer tented camp, before a high tea and setting off on your first afternoon safari, in open 4×4 vehicles. Enjoy the afternoon with your ranger on the reserve in search of Africa’s big game. Stop for sundowners in the bush before returning to the camp for dinner.

Days 9/10
Two full days on safari at Quatermain’s. Safaris take place in open 4×4 vehicles in the early mornings and late afternoons when the animals are at their most active. The reserve is home to a wide variety of game, including the legendary Big Five.

Day 11
After one final morning safari and brunch at the camp it is time to return to reality and drive the short distance to Port Elizabeth where you will return your rental car before checking in for your return flight
