Ololo Safari Lodge – Nairobi National Park – Kenya
Ololo Safari Lodge is nestled on the banks of the Mbagathi River which forms the southern boundary of the Nairobi National Park, with sweeping views over the park. Guests can often see 4 of the Big Five from the lodge deck. This is the perfect spot to either start or end your Kenya safari. Just 45 minutes from both Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and Wilson domestic airport with a safari en-route. The fully inclusive rate means that from arrival at the airport until you depart the lodge your every need is taken care of.
With a special dispensation for 24 hour access to the park, guests can arrive into Nairobi at any time of day or night and still be transferred through the park. As most of the transfer time is through the park, you also avoid the notorious traffic that can often occur in Nairobi. The return transfers are included in your stay at Ololo Safari Lodge.
Ololo Safari Lodge is a great choice for a wide variety of travellers, and combines wonderfully with Speke’s Camp in the famous Maasai Mara for a more complete Kenyan wildlife adventure.
Enter a different world
13 rooms and suites make up the sprawling farmstead, a world away from the nearby burgeoning city of Nairobi. The rooms offer a perfect blend of colonial farmhouse and understated safari style, perfect for their surroundings, and all offer en-suite modern bathrooms.
There is a room type to suit all types and budgets. Entry level rooms are thoughtfully restored old horse stables, complemented by beautiful tented cottages in the lodge gardens, and even a 3 bedroomed “Stable Cottage” perfect for families to all stay together in one unit. The Terrace Room and Tower Room offer those seeking that extra level of luxury and space.

Safaris
With its own private entrance across a footbridge into the Nairobi National Park from where twice daily safaris in 4×4 vehicles are conducted. The park with the Nairobi city skyline in the background is home to a wide variety of big game including lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo, zebra, giraffe and many more. Given the compact nature of the park, sightings are generally very good, and often backed by the very unusual backdrop of one of Africa’s most important cities.

A little extra…
Guests staying at Ololo can visit the world renowned Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (most famous for its elephant orphanage) with complimentary transfers through the park directly to the orphanage each morning (entrance fees to the orphanage are payable direct). This wonderful institution runs the world’s most successful elephant orphan rescue and rehabilitation programme.

When to visit:
January – March: Nairobi is very close to the equator and has a fairly stable climate year round in terms of temperature. This period of the year has warm, mostly sunny days with mild nights.
April – May: This period is known as the “long rains” and typically experiences regular rain showers. These are the two wettest months of the year, however, it does not mean constant rains. It is the lowest tourist season to Kenya, which often means a more exclusive experience.
June – September: This is the cooler and driest time of the year, and Kenya’s peak safari season, meaning availability is limited, be sure to book as far in advance as possible, with only 13 rooms Ololo can fill very easily.
October – December: Temperatures warm up slightly with the arrival of the “short rains” which typically have a shorter duration than the “long rains” in April-May, but are similarly characterised by short afternoon downpours.
Ololo Safari Lodge is in an area that experiences malaria – please consult your doctor regarding anti-malaria prophylactics.
