The Last Word Kitara offers a haven of understated elegance to guests in 6 suites. 4 of the suites are strung out along the river bank, while a double suite ideal of families with older children is set slightly back on the lush lawns. All suites have air-conditioning, en-suite bathrooms with indoor and outdoor showers, private decks and complimentary mini-bars. The main area of the lodges looks directly out onto the Klaserie River (the river dries out in the winter months) which is a beacon for animals. The expansive main deck and rim flow pool offer uninterrupted views into the bush beyond, the perfect place to while away the midday hours.
Like all The Last Word properties, Kitara is renowned for high levels of personalised service, sumptuous food and intimate atmosphere.
Safaris take place twice a day at dawn and again in the late afternoon in open 4×4 safari vehicles. All safaris are led by an experienced guide and tracker team who help you make the most of your time in the bush. With some 7,000 ha of pristine African bush at your disposal and few other vehicles, you really feel like you are in a vast wilderness. The area is home to a wide variety of game, including Africa’s famed “Big Five”, as well as regular sightings of wild dogs!
The daily safaris in 4×4 vehicles are complimented by walking safaris that are offered after breakfast (weather permitting) which allow guests to experience the bush from a totally different perspective.
A little extra…
Dining at Kitara is always a special affair, and not just because of the delectable food! The lodge team try whenever possible to allow guests to dine outside to fully appreciate the beauty of the African wilderness. Sit around a roaring fire in the lodge’s “boma” under the never ending canopy of stars, or under the shade of your umbrella on the deck at lunch. During the dry winter months when the river stops flowing you may even be offered a river bed breakfast or dinner, truly surrounded by the call of the wild!
